“I have been trying for months and months with no luck- you make one phone call and they pay, how on earth do you do it?”
We hear this all the time. As in all the time! Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to hear and means we are doing our job, but I have some news for you folks- we aren’t this mythical force with a magic wand that suddenly makes the money appear- we are merely a third party who know what pressure points to push and what to do and say to get people to pay. And there is one key word at the heart of everything we do. And it is this:
URGENCY.
We create it, we stress it, we enforce it, we emphasise it to within an inch of its life. And guess what- you can too! Anyone can. Urgency is tight deadlines. It is giving them until close of business today to make a payment. It is asking “what is the absolute most you can pay today to stop action?”. It is creating an email account called “Enforcement Team” and cc’ing “them” into your emails to your debtor. It is warning them that “Collectmore is standing by”. It is being decisive and confident, but not demanding and inflexible.
One of the very first things I tell people in my training sessions is this- “You don’t need debt collectors- everything we do, you can do yourself”.
