The less you need to rely on your customer, in order to get paid, the better

“The less your customer needs to do to pay you, the better”- Of all our favourite sayings, and there are plenty, this is one of my favourites. It is just so true. If you are having to chase your customer for money, they have already shown they are unreliable so do as much for them as you possibly can to make paying you the easiest thing they will do that day- examples- provide your bank details in every email, SMS and phone conversation, email them a copy of the invoice while you are on the phone with them, ask them to log on and transfer the funds now while you wait “to save them another job”, and one of my all time favourites- use your email’s CC function as liberally as possible. It is a great feature that is sadly under-used. If your customer say they will get “Kylie” to make the payment, cc “Kylie” into your email, or better yet- ask to speak with Kylie yourself, once again “to save them another job”.
It is unfortunate that sometimes we need to hold the hand of grown adults in order to get our money, but it is what it is and as I always say- people aren’t bad, they are just bad with money. Cheers
