As a collection agency, we are continually shocked at how few business owners text their outstanding invoice customers. SMS is one of the most powerful contact methods you have yet it is often overlooked in favour of email, a phone call or the antiquated snail mail letter. SMS is cheap, instant, you can personalize it however you like, include your bank account details for the customer to pay into, and with the advent of iMessage, even see when your customer has read it. It is also an excellent way of confirming an agreement you have made with a customer by phone- if they promise to make a payment, send them a quick text afterwards confirming this and asking them to text you back once they have made it. This encourages accountability and buy-in and shows that you are diligent, thorough and determined- key attributes every business owner worth their salt should possess.
