The follow up email

Once any sort of verbal payment committment has been agreed on over the phone, a follow up email should ALWAYS be sent to the customer/debtor confirming the details of what was agreed.  This simple task is an extremely powerful tool to obtain buy-in from the other party and encourages accountability on their part.  The psychology behind someone reading and being reminded of a committment they made is very strong and our natural human tendency is to follow through with our promises.  Even if an email cannot be sent, a text message will suffice.
