I am sure we have all heard it before, countless times, in various forms, but always along the same lines- “they owe money everywhere!” I am talking about other people who tell you they are also chasing your customer for money. Here are some other versions you may have heard: “I know he owes many people money”, “there are heaps of people chasing him for money”, “he is always in court after being sued by someone or another”, etc. Guys the message of today’s post is this- always take anything anyone else tells you about your customer with a grain of salt. Do not believe everything you hear. In my experience dealing with this, bearing in mind that I hear it more than anyone (clients giving me a heads up), people will exagerate. Who knows why- perhaps it is to validate their point or emphasise their opinion, but I take exactly zero notice. It is irrelevant. I encourage you to think the same- focus only on your money and what your customer owes you. Who cares what they owe someone else- out of sight, out of mind. If they owe other companies money, you need to make sure your invoice is at the front of the queue- when funds are in short supply and need to be distributed to multiple suppliers, they will prioritize- ensure that you and the work that you have done for them is their priority. Be persistent, be thorough, be understanding, create urgency, build rapport and above all else- be determined! Cheers
